Heler LLC operates this website. This page explains what personal information the site collects, why it collects it, and what you can ask us to do about it. If anything here is unclear, write to us and we will explain it in plain terms.
The short version
We are a consultancy, not an advertising business. We do not sell personal information, we do not run advertising networks, and we do not build profiles of visitors. Most people who read this site are never identified by it at all.
What we collect, and why
When you use the contact form
The contact form asks for your name, organization, job title, email address, subject and message. We use what you send only to reply to you and to keep a record of the enquiry. Submissions reach us by email. The form is protected against automated abuse by Google reCAPTCHA, which receives technical information about your request in order to tell people from bots.
When you leave a comment
If you comment on a post we store the comment itself, the name and email address you supply, your IP address, and your browser user agent string. WordPress uses the last two for spam detection. An anonymized string created from your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you have a profile picture there.
Site analytics
We use Google Analytics, connected through the Site Kit plugin, to understand which pages people read and where they arrive from. Google sets cookies and processes technical data including device and browser information, an approximate location derived from your IP address, and the pages you view. Google acts as our data processor for this. Their handling is described in the Google Privacy Policy.
Our own page and download counters
We also count page views and resume downloads on our own server, without a third party. For each event we store the date and time, the type of event, the page or file involved, and the website that referred you. We do not store your IP address and we do not store your browser string. To count unique visitors, and to stop a single client downloading a file hundreds of times, we compute a one way hash of the IP address using a secret that changes every day. The address itself is never written to the database, the hash cannot be turned back into an address, and yesterday’s hash for a given visitor does not match today’s. Nothing in this record identifies you.
Downloading the resume
The resume is served through a check that confirms the request came from a person rather than an automated client. That check may include Cloudflare Turnstile, which receives technical information about your request for that purpose only. Cloudflare states that Turnstile is not used for advertising or for tracking people across sites.
Cookies
- WordPress sets a cookie if you leave a comment, so that you do not have to retype your details next time, and sets session cookies when someone logs in. Only site administrators log in.
- Google Analytics sets cookies as described above.
- Our cookie notice stores your choice, so that we do not ask again on every page.
You can refuse or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site works without them, apart from remembering your comment details.
Fonts and other third party requests
Pages load typefaces from Google Fonts. Your browser requests those files from Google’s servers, which discloses your IP address to Google as part of the request. We do not embed video players, social media widgets, tracking pixels or advertising tags.
Who we share information with
We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not share it for anyone’s advertising purposes. It reaches only:
- Google, for analytics, reCAPTCHA and fonts
- Cloudflare, for the bot check on downloads
- our web host and our email provider, who process it on our behalf in order to run the site and deliver our mail
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, for example in response to a valid legal request.
How long we keep it
- Contact form emails and comments are kept for as long as they remain useful, and are deleted on request.
- Analytics data is retained according to the setting in our Google Analytics property.
- Our own counters keep the totals indefinitely, because those totals contain no personal data. The stored referrer is cleared after 365 days as housekeeping.
Your rights
You can ask what personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to how we use it. If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, the GDPR gives you these rights. If you are in California, the CCPA gives you comparable rights, including the right not to be treated differently for exercising them. We do not sell personal information, so there is no sale to opt out of.

Security
The site is served over HTTPS. Access to the administration area is restricted, and the analytics figures described above are visible only to administrators. No system is perfectly secure, so please do not send us sensitive personal information through the contact form.
Children
This site is aimed at a professional audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has sent us information, write to us and we will delete it.
Changes to this page
If we change how this site handles personal information we will update this page and change the date at the top.
